Ongoing and/or Annual Educational Programs
Regularly scheduled programs offered to the community include:
Chronic Disease Self Management Education Program, designed by researchers from Stanford University, is a six-week program offered to all South Shore residents living with the challenges of one or more chronic conditions either themselves or someone for whom they care. The program teaches strategies to improve quality of life, communication with doctors, and ability to handle stress. Trained program leaders help participants set and meet personal goals, make good choices about one’s health and identify simple techniques that increase energy level. Call 781-659-2342 for more information.
Diabetic Self-Management Education Program is a 10-hour program offered over five weeks that encompasses the physical, medication, nutritional, and behavioral aspects of dealing with diabetes. Many insurance companies, including Medicare, cover the cost of this program. Taught by a certified diabetic educator, the program is offered at various locations on the South Shore. Please call 781-659-2342 for information.
Babysitting and Parents’ Helpers Training and Education Program is offered each October through the Norwell Recreation Department. Open to area children in grades five through eight, this program teaches parent helpers how to entertain children and keep them safe while an adult is in the home, while the babysitting course focuses on essentials of child care and safety when alone with children. Members of Norwell Fire Department assist Norwell VNA and Hospice nurses in teaching the program, which is offered for a nominal donation. Contact Norwell Recreation at 781-659-8046 for more information.
