The Pat Roche Hospice Home
Our non-profit, 12-bed hospice residence opened in late October, 2013 for the care of anyone qualified to receive hospice services who cannot remain within their own home for end-of-life care. This may include patients already living on the South Shore, or people living elsewhere but who want to move closer to family or loved ones living on the South Shore.

Why choose a hospice residence?
For some hospice patients, staying within their own home for their final weeks may not be a feasible option. Some may have young children who they don’t want to associate the family home with their death. Others may be in their senior years and their care is too much for an elderly spouse to handle. Some may find themselves wishing to return to the South Shore to be closer to family and friends. And still others may have no family or people close to them to help provide care.
Until we opened the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, there were no hospice residences on the South Shore. So many hospice patients had to move out of the area or to a nursing home or hospital for end of life care. Our residence provides a home-like setting in the patient’s community, and as a non-profit, our room and board charges are considerably more feasible.
Hospice care within the hospice residence
Our hospice team provides the same level of care to patients living in the hospice residence that we provide to patients living in their own homes. The focus of care continues to be providing physical, emotional, social and spiritual support for patients and their families. Our hospice services and support are tailored to meet the specific needs of each of our patients and their families. Professional medical care emphasizes pain management and symptom relief. Emotional and spiritual support offers patients and families comfort and strength.

Patients have their own private room with bathroom, and can share common areas where family can gather and visit, such as the library, tea room, family room with full kitchen, outside porch, and spectacular surrounding grounds. Two family suites are also available for out of town family members and a family kitchen, dining area and entertainment room is specifically designated for family and friends of patients to have gatherings.
